Giorgetti S.p.A. is a company with over a hundred years of history, the result of a reality in this territory that is synonymous with work and entrepreneurship. To tell the tale of Giorgetti means to tell the economic and evolutionary story of Meda, a city in Brianza situated about thirty kilometres north of Milan.

The artisan activity in Meda started in the countryside thanks to the farmers who made extra money by creating work utensils and furniture. Moreover, Meda was initially founded near an important monastery of Benedictine nuns founded in the VIII century and, in 1195, Emperor Henry VI stayed there and later, Emperor Maximilian. The work of the Benedictine nuns and their important guests created the conditions for demand of high quality furniture.

At the start of the XX century, Meda was an established furniture centre, and was able to compete with any manufacturer in Europe, thanks to quality products, working techniques and more and more refined wood finishing. This significant improvement in local manufacturing can be attributed to the arrival of the best masters from the art schools of Paris, Venice and Milan; in addition, there was the municipal design and carving school, together with the parish school.

In this historical context, Luigi Giorgetti started his entrepreneurial adventure.

The real stylistic change came about in the 80s when Giorgetti decided to collaborate with architects, city planners, artists and intellectuals who never thought they would ever design furniture. This decision apparently a risky one turned out to be a winner.

Nowadays, Giorgetti broke furniture design constraints, adopting specialized mechanical production lines and advanced digital quality control systems to fulfill both functional practicality and aesthetic quality requirements, and enthusiastically collaborate with noteworthy professionalism such as Massimo Scolari, Chi Wing Lo, Léon Krier, Laura Silvestrini and Antonello Mosca. That carries a unique and instantly recognizable style: the Giorgetti style.

The brand Lolli e Memmoli, created in 1993 by the Architects Ivan Lolli and Mario Memmoli, gave a new interpretation of the crystal chandelier, giving it a contemporary feel, through constant design, research and technical innovation.

The collection is sophisticated and exclusive, distinguished by a contemporary form of deconstructionism applied to the shape of the classic baroque chandelier. Lolli e Memmoli deconstruct and reinterpret its sinuous arms and curvy lines, creating essential and neat geometries that succeed in enriching and expanding the light source thanks to the clever gradual stratification of several layers of Bohemiam-cut Venetian crystals. The palette is very wide and is updated every year with new purpose-made shadings and tonalities.

Every single item in the collection is made in Italy in Lolli e Memmoli studio located in Milan; like any original work of art all Lolli e Memmoli creations come with a badge proving its authenticity. The collection is handmade and each piece is a one-off item, a piece in which crystals are assembled in a unique architecture of order and disorder: a skillfully balanced blend for a striking and exciting final effect.

The collection is constantly shown in some of the most important fashion and lifestyles magazines around the world, internationally recognized as a sign of quality and excellence with a unique product focused on enhancing the inner beauty of our homes.

Using experience gained over 16 years Lolli e Memmoli have been able to create a design icon in crystal chandeliers which has become an inspiration to many other brands.

In 1865 Walter Knoll opened a leather shop in Stuttgart. To begin with, he produced every sort of handmade seating furniture. Carpenter, upholsterer and saddler abilities were required for these creations. He became the royal purveyor to the court to the Württemberg dynasty.

In 1907 his sons Walter and Wilhelm took over the company and carried it on in the traditional way. But even so, both were looking for new ways of producing chairs, armchairs and sofas. Through the influences of the Weimar Republic and the First World War, new, modern seating furniture was created, and distinguished itself by the use of colourful materials and a functional design. In 1937 the company moved to Herrenberg. Wilhelm Knoll used the furniture at the Stuttgarter Weißenhof settlement from 1927 as his model. He exchanged springs and thick upholstery for elastic belts, thus achieving a higher level of comfort for his armchairs and sofas. His light aluminium armchairs and chairs also set a trend and were used to furnish the Zeppelins. In 1950, design production after the war resumed. The first furniture exhibition fair in Cologne was a huge success for the company.

In 1964, Walter Knolls second son, Robert took over the management. New materials and processing techniques allowed curvy and organic looking shapes. Kidney-tables and shell seats became fashionable in the 50s. In 1974, Knoll-furniture was represented at the Milan furniture fair for the first time. International orders followed. The furnishing style became more relaxed and lead to a more disorganized living area in the 80s. In 1975 the Lobby-Seating-System was created for the Tegel airport. The office furniture series Walter Knoll Office moved its way to the centre of production line.

In the mid 80s, Walter Knoll & Co. took over the company Wilhelm Knoll. In 1988 the office product line PRIMO came on the market. Modern and classic-timeless seating furniture was created on the base of traditional high quality. Established classics and new, purist designs, which could be used in public and private areas, rounded off the product range in the mid 90s. In 2001 the first new production halls in Mötzingen, near Herrenberg were christened. The buildings, by architect Hans Ulrich Benz, were awarded a prize for Exemplary building in the county of Böblingen.

Love of detail. Passion. Creativity. Promemoria has antique roots. The adventure began in the 19th century in a village on the shores of lake Como, where the Sozzi family ran a business restoring and repairing carriages for the local aristocracy.

In time, a complex manufacturing unit developed which brought together all the various phases of working; from the search for materials to the study of finishings which today is the undisputed pinnacle of décor excellence and gem among Italian and European artisans.

The world of Promemoria promotes high cultural values among a demanding and knowledgeable public, and encourages appreciation of the history of things as well as their intrinsic quality.

Starting from the historic Milan showroom, the brand has become global, and Promemoria is now present at exclusive addresses in the world’s major cities:Paris ,London, Moscow, New York, Hamburg, Munich, Warsaw and Taipei.

Robert Kuo was born in Beijing, he moved with his family to Taiwan in 1947. Kuo grew up in an artistic environment. His father, an art professor and Chinese watercolor painter, started a cloisonné atelier where Robert became an apprentice at age fifteen.

While pursuing his studies in Taipei, Kuo assisted his father in the creation of a cloisonné studio. A visit to the United States persuaded the young artist/entrepreneur that the American environment would benefit him, both personally and professionally. In 1973, he immigrated to the United States and opened a studio for cloisonné in Beverly Hills. Utilizing the influences of Art Noueau and Art Deco, Kuo introduced new shapes, finishes, and objects to cloisonné. The Kuo Gallery quickly became a favorite stop for designers seeking distinctive decorative objects for their clientele. By 1985, Kuo shifted his focus from working in cloisonné to repoussé, the art of hammering decorative relief onto metal.

A visit to Robert Kuo's showroom is an aesthetic inspiration. Its soaring, sunlit space serves as an appropriate backdrop for timeless, evocative quality of his pieces. This is reinforced by a selection of Asian antiques collected by Kuo in his travels. Elegant displays and tasteful furnishings contribute to an environment that is at once both peaceful and exciting. Perhaps Robert Kuo owes his longevity to his passion for the eternal, for forms that have stood the test of time.
